Planning to migrate from iCloud to multiple backup solutions.

I’m planning to migrate from iCloud to multiple backup solutions.

The reason:

1. iCloud is costly and doesn’t offer too many tiers of storage plans
2. iCloud is not convenient to use across all platforms
3. Only using iCloud makes redundancy is insufficient
4. Too many restrictions

Therefore, there’s a sketch of the future backup plans I may adopt:

1. Get a NAS, pay for one hard drive by installment for the first yr, and purchase the second in the subsequent yr, making em RAID-1.
2. Cold backup1 by using Blu-ray discs to store locally
3. Cold backup2 by using AWS S3 Glacier Deep Archive to store remotely
4. Still stuck w/ iCloud, but downgrading to 200GB, only for instant use.
5. Migrate a portion of documents to OneDrive subs from Microsoft 365.

Roughly speaking, it may not reduce the cost too much and may take time to fine-tune every part, but it’s more deployable, flexible, expandable, and also less dependent (from Apple).

The key to doing this is: I do need a backup, and I do need to backup everything, and I do need to organize everything clearly.

Migrating from iCloud Keychain to another password management tool is not expected, however. Still looking forward to it can be supporting OTP on other platforms.
